Danish and A Doughnut

A near mint Conant Ball American Danish modern-style slat back armchair purchased from Antiques Moderne. The wood has a beautiful patina but the cushions were dirty and dated. Way more than I wanted to pay, but it is in excellent condition.

After renovation. New seat cushions and a a little buff here and there.

True confessions: I hate plaid. I mean I really really loathe it.  However, I found this silk blend and it immediately caught my eye. Why? Because it's a great retro plaid. It reminds me of the swim shorts boys wore in the 60's. Go daddy-O!

Rear view. Nice lines.

And...is this the most beautiful doughnut you've ever seen?

I've been thinking about lighting lately. After snapping some shots of my kitchen, I realized that I missed an opportunity for something fabulous over the island. So I'm trolling for lights. Again.

1950's Wall Decor

Asiatic Lily by Harris. Watercolor. I picked this gem up in San Francisco in the mid 90's. I'll dig up some information on the print and artist soon. The photo does not do it justice. It really is lovely and feminine. Makes me want to put on lounge wear and marabou mules.

I can't decide if I'm ready to part company with this yet. That said, if I knew it was going to a good home, I'd consider sharing.

Detail of the Artist's Signature

Cockatoos by Turner. Mass produced and sold in retail locations. I love these prints in a baby nursery, a girl's room or a single gal's boudoir.  This one is up for grabs. Shoot me an email if you are interested.

Original Shirrell Graves Watercolor Painting.
I'll reserve this space for insightful comments about the work, the artist and its genre when I find someone who can provide all that.

This is one of two that I purchased for the kid's playroom. Unfortunately, I only had the wall space for one. If you are interested in giving it a good home, let me know. I'll make you a deal. The map is in really great condition and still smells like a classroom.

Bog-Art Sculpture. What is art anyway? Would you buy this? Discuss...

A Table, A Lamp and A Bar

I've been collecting mid-century furniture for fifteen years now, but since being exiled in Dallas, I've not been quite so avid. You have to seek MCM out in Dallas. In California, MCM finds you. Ok, I'll admit it. I'm a lazy collector. But now the passion is back and I'm starting out a new business based on that passion. That said, let's look back at where it all began.

A Table, A Lamp and A Bar.

My first MCM purchase, a two-tiered side table. Its twin was sold, but it made no difference to me. I loved the blonde and the black. I loved the stilleto legs, the glass tier and the brass caps. This table was purchased from X21 Modern design in Sacramento, California. I'm not sure if the store is still there or not. If it is, check it out.

I've been hesitant to refinish the table, but I'm going to take on the challenge. I'll post the "after" pics.

Top view with my Uggy toes.

Stilleto legs. So sexy!

My first MCM lamp. I picked this up at a yard sale in NorCal. There is no branding, but I have seen similar crab-style lamps from Heywood-Wakefield. I have no idea if the shade is original. I fell in love at first sight and will NEVER part with this one.

detail of the crab-like base.

The third element. I actually swooned when I saw this in a dismal little junk shop. It is in original condition and earned that nasty scratch in the last move. This will be one of my Modern Hindsight projects and may end up as the company mascot. The large square hides a swivel bar with space for a dozen martini glasses, a dozen bottles and a mirror.

All dressed up and ready for action.

Danish Modern Kitchen

Fabulous Danish Modern dining chairs re-examined by Modern Hindsight.

Now where can I find three more just like them?

A Pair of Dunbar Chairs

The Dunbar arm chairs. I have looked high and low for a similar chair in the Dunbar rolls and have only found one, without the side panels. The chairs carry the Dunbar marker, so I believe  they are authentic, however, my guess is that they are not (unfortunately) associated with the illustrious Edward Wormley hence no pictures, no history, nothing.

Look at those lines. The chair seems to propel the seated guest forward.

Unfortunately I do not have the "before" pictures. Take my word for it, they were pretty bad. These chairs and the table were discovered at Antiques Moderne in Dallas. Re-covered in a manly modern square texture pattern in grey toned neutrals. The wood had a gorgeous patina and was simply cleaned and polished.
Rear view. Lovely slats.
